Join the Pollux Staff
Pollux Journal is looking for language and literature enthusiasts from all parts of the world to review our writing submissions and manage our social media presence. We want our staff to have some experience with multilinguality; however, you do not have to be fluent in multiple languages to apply. Whether you're a polyglot or just starting to learn a new language, your experience saturates the spectrum of multilinguality.
Our application is open from now until February 14, 2025; find it at https://forms.gle/Sgb2Y4WCuh2Xe9KY8. Currently, all of our positions are filled on a volunteer basis. Below are descriptions for each role.
Reader (All Genres)
EST. COMMITMENT: 2–3 HOURS/WEEK
START DATE: MARCH 2025
Readers are the first to look at every poetry, prose, and creative nonfiction submission that Pollux receives. You will be given roughly 3–6 pieces per week, depending on the total number of submissions coming in at any given time. Reviewing a piece involves leaving a vote for or against publication with a brief rationale. For paid submissions, we ask that you leave a longer comment (roughly 250–500 words) to be sent to the submitter as feedback. Readers will also attend staff-wide meetings, no more than twice per month, to discuss upcoming events and keep everyone on the same page.
Many of the submissions that Pollux receives contain elements written in or pertaining to languages other than English. Readers are given submissions from all languages, but we try our best to make assignments based on the one(s) you are familiar with. In case of multilingual submissions, we also encourage their authors to provide a glossary.
Communication platforms: Slack and Airtable for regular tasks; Google Meet for staff-wide meetings. Email occasionally.
Editor (Poetry, Prose)
EST. COMMITMENT: 1–3 HOURS/WEEK
START DATE: MARCH 2025
Editors review submissions that were unanimously approved by readers or that received conflicting votes at the first reading stage. You will be given roughly 2–4 pieces per week, depending on the total number of submissions coming in at any given time. Reviewing a piece involves leaving a vote for or against publication with a brief rationale. For paid submissions, we ask that you leave a longer comment (roughly 250–500 words) to be sent to the submitter as feedback. In addition to staff-wide meetings, editors will meet every two weeks with our EIC to discuss submissions that are still contested after the second reading stage.
Editors specialize in reviewing either poetry or prose (fiction, nonfiction, and hybrid) submissions. You can choose to apply for one or both genres.
